{SECTION_MENU}Friday 14th November

Friday 19th December

Christmas festivities in full swing this week and it has been a joy to take part in so many activities with you all; as always you have shown kindness, respect and support for one another and I have thoroughly enjoyed everything we have done!

A huge well done to everyone who took part in 'Brereton's Got Talent', you were all amazing and we were so proud of how supportive and encouraging everyone was, you should all be so proud of yourselves! Of course there could only be one winner, which was Max and Elishama for their incredible performance! I did record this and it will be uploaded in the coming days.

We also took part in the wonderful Carol service, handed out cards to our community and completed some writing on The Grinch!

We would like to wish you all the most magical Christmas and a well deserved break. Thank you all for all the Christmas cards and gifts too, it has been so generous of you all and is really appreciated. It has been a pleasure to teach you all for the first term of Year 6 and I can't wait to see what next year will bring!

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Warren

Friday 12th December

What a wonderful week we have had in Year 6, starting our festivities!

Thank you so much for all that sponsored us on our elf run - we managed a total of 62km!

We have also completed our fractions unit and our final piece of writing on 'A story like the wind', I will send these home next week once we have published them. In music, we also wrote our own Christmas songs - some of them could be a future number 1!

Next week, we will be enjoying lots of festive fun! We have our church service, Christmas lunch and party on Thursday and I am sure we will find some time for some other festive activities!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Warren

Week beginning 20th October

What a wonderful final few weeks to end our first half term. We have been so impressed with everything we have achieved over the past 7 weeks and can't wait to see where the year will take us!

We have completed our unit on Rose Blanche but we will continue to look at WW2 after half term in Geography. Everyone has produced some fantastic pieces of creative writing that they should be very proud of. We have completed our first 2 units in maths and are now ready to move onto fractions next half term.

We have had quite a busy few weeks out of the classroom too: bikeability, chemistry with cabbage, Crucial Crewe and Open the book. It is a pleasure to see you all participate in activities to the best of your abilities and to always work as part of a team, you really are wonderful role models for those around you!

During half term, enjoy a well earned break! It is very much deserved, however, if you do want to keep practising those times tables it may help you after half term when we look at fractions. There will also be a KS2 battle on over the week if you would like to take part.

Wishing you all a wonderful and restful half term,

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Warren

Week beginning 6th October

On Tuesday we welcomed Professor Wilson into Year 6 to learn about chemistry. We were able to experiment with alkalis and acids, finding out which each is used for and what happens when solutions are mixed. We also learnt some new key language like dissolve, corrode and molecules.

In the afternoon, we talked about the importance of our senses when scientists are investigating and we explored how gases are given off. We experimented with some rubber gloves and watched some demonstrations of how heartburn medicine works in our body.

It was a very exciting and interesting day for us all!

We would also like to say a huge thank you for everyone who came to our learning exhibition; we loved sharing our learning with you all and teaching you some new things!

Week beginning 29th September

A wonderful week in Year 6 with lots to celebrate!

We have almost finished our second piece of writing, our Rose Blanche bravery speech, and they really are wonderful. We have all been using exciting, formal language and showing our audience way Rose was such a remarkable young girl. We will be sending finished pieces home next week.

After a tricky start to maths this week starting our long division unit, we are all so much more confident and have been completing lots of questions independently and sharing our answers and methods with the class. We will continue to work on this next week but we are so pleased with the resilience and determination you have all shown, well done!

In history, we looked at rationing and how this impacted children – who knew that they could still have fish and chips during the war! We are all looking forward to our lesson with Ms Mitton in a few weeks where we will get to try some wartime recipes.

In PE, we have been continuing with developing our skills in football. These lessons have paid off as the Year 6 team came 2nd in the Holmes Chapel tournament. A huge well done to them!

We would also like to celebrate our new ambassadors – Alice, Freddie and Elizabeth- and we will continue next week with 3 more! Well done to Luke who also got a certificate for wonderful work in History and Amelie for her consistent showing of our school values. Elishama was also awarded our 2% club certificate this week.

Next week, we are excited to have our ‘Chemistry with Cabbage’ session on Tuesday, we hope to learn lots from Professor Wilson!

Homework is due on Monday as usual, please let me know if there are any problems.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Warren

Week beginning 15th September

Another wonderful week in Year 6! We really are so thrilled and amazed with how well everyone has settled into our new routines and general life in year 6.

We have now completed our first piece of writing and the effort and care everyone has shown has been wonderful – anyone who has completed their publishing has a copy to take home for you to see!

We have also moved onto multiplication and division in maths which has been a little bit trickier than our previous unit but again, there has been some great resilience and determination to complete our tasks. Please continue to practice times tables in preparation for long multiplication and division in a few weeks’ time.

We have been working together and exploring in forest school and next week will continue team building with our first orienteering session!  In PE, we continued with hockey and football, learning new skills and playing a game at the end. We also started our WW2 unit and learnt about how and why the war started; we will be looking at the impact of the war on children over the coming weeks.

Finally, congratulations to Tom, Hazel and Orla who are our new ambassadors and Megan and Josh who received our certificates this week - we are looking forward to handing out more ambassadors next week!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Warren

Week  beginning 8th September

Well done to all in year 6 for a wonderful week!

As well as continuing our writing and maths where we have seen incredible effort and determination from everyone; we have had a very exciting week outside of the classroom.

On Thursday we had our first orienteering session where we worked in teams to complete tasks outside. We had to explore and be adventurous to find and crack codes and challenges. This was our first session of many and we can’t wait to use it within our lessons.

We also had our first forest school session where we used the resources around us to create soldiers, they looked fantastic!

We also walked to church and listened to Reverend Sandi tell us about what her church services consisted of and how they are similar to our own school worships. She encouraged us to ask questions about the bible to learn more and we have been invited to lead the prayers in school worship next week.

In our celebration worship, we were thrilled to give out our first 3 ambassador badges to Elishama, Layla and Sophia. They have been wonderful role models and I am sure there will be many more in the weeks to come. Congratulations to Issy and Tristan too who got our certificates for wonderful effort in all lessons and being so considerate to others. Well done!

As our homework books have yet to arrive, please use this opportunity to be using TT Rockstars and reading. I will set another 10 spellings and a maths task on Monday.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Warren

Welcome back Year 6!

Welcome back Year 6, your final first day back of your time at Brereton!

It has been an absolute pleasure to get to know all of you this week, I have been blown away by your consideration towards each other and attitude towards learning and it makes me very excited for the year ahead!

We have already begun our English unit of Rose Blanche and starting creating some excellent ideas towards our own writing in a few week’s time. We have also started our maths, guided reading and spelling and the effort from everyone has been amazing.

Next week we will start our full timetable and have RE, music, history, art and science in the afternoons, as well as forest school on Thursday morning. Please remember outdoor clothing and footwear or spare clothes to change into.

Finally, we would also like to say congratulations to Alfie and Elizabeth who are our Year 6 school council members and Isabel and Josh who will be our sports ambassadors. Well done to everyone who applied for these roles, it was lovely to see such commitment from everyone.

We hope you all have a wonderful and restful weekend.

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Warren

Class of 2025 Graduation Instructions | James Madison High School

The Full Stop Day

Last six hours of primary school
Goodbye is getting near
The sums and sentences all done
The full stop day is here

Last five hours of primary school
Where everything's before
The aims and games and crazes
no one’s crazy for no more

Last four hours of primary school
Surrounded by a class
who'll scatter soon and not return
when summer’s days have passed

Last three hours of primary school
One final lunchtime play
Instead of chasing friends we try
to chase and catch the day

Last two hours of primary school
The clock hands blur and skid
Signing shirts, remembering
the coolest things we did

Last one hour of primary school
where teachers understood
And helped me see I could achieve
for they believed I could

Last half hour of primary school
The assembly we all dread
We cannot sing - us Year Six kings
The crown slips from our heads

Last ever second of primary school
The full stop rings in our ears
But a thousand chapters left to write
We must vacate our childhood site
For time moves on and time is right -
To leave our wonder years

We would like to wish everyone a wonderful summer! Thank you for all of the cards, gifts and messages, we truly appreciate every single one of them.

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor...over and out!

Friday 27th June

Another week has flown by! We have seen the second group of children go off on their transition days to Sandbach schools and Shavington, they all seemed to have enjoyed these days in their new schools.  Back in school, we have been busy finalising our school production, writing our Hansel and Gretel stories and of course, sports day. We have also continued to look at the New Testament in RE with Barry from Walk through Bible. Next week looks to be another busy one, we have our final transition days, final rehearsals, practicing our Leaver's Service and one of the highlights of our year, prom! We also begin swimming every day, further details will be sent via dojo, but children have all been made aware of their groups and timings. PE kit can be worn every day so that getting dressed will be as quick and easy as possible. Wishing you all a wonderful and restful weekend, Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor

Friday 6th June

A very busy week for our final 'first week back' of the year!

As you have probably heard, this week has been full of rehearsals for our summer show, in between writing about our new text, Hansel and Gretel, ratio work in maths, PE and RE with Barry from 'Walk through Bible'.

We have been learning our lines, songs, dance routines and more importantly, trying to put it all together into a production. We have been so impressed with everyone's enthusiasm and dedication to learning lines. Please continue to do so at home, especially the songs, as we will be singing and dancing at the same time, which is not an easy task! We will be rehearsing as often as we can but Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be our dance rehearsal days so please wear PE kit.

We have transition visits beginning next week with teachers from Holmes Chapel and Sandbach High coming in to see the children so it promises to be another busy week.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor

Friday 23rd May 2025

What an amazing week we've had in Year 6!

We began the week by planning our Design and Technology project 'Come Dine With Me' and the excitement grew as the week went on.  We discussed food miles and farm to fork; making sure we understood what goes into growing our food.  We looked at how to use knives safely using a claw grip and practised chopping soft and hard vegetables. Finally, the big day arrived, time to prepare and cook our three course meals.  You could feel the buzz around school and we had lots of visitors and the wonderful aroma drifted around. We were so proud of ourselves as were Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor.

We hope you have a wonderful half term and now you all have Michelin Star chefs, you can sit back and look forward to be waited on.

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor

Friday 16th May 2025

WELL DONE, YEAR 6, YOU DID IT!

SATs week is over and what a week it has been! We have been blown away with the commitment and determination shown by everyone and it has been so wonderful to see the confidence going into the hall and the smiles coming out afterwards (perhaps due to the ice creams!)

After all the hard work that has gone into this week, we thought it was important to spend the rest of our time winding down and enjoying the time with each other. We have done lots of team building games, taskmaster, forest school and, of course, trips to the park.

We have also finally decided on our summer show -a secret for now -  and have watched this in preparation; auditions will be held next week so we would like everyone to think over the weekend which part they would like (we have stage crew roles for anyone who doesn't want to be on the stage.)

We have also spent some time planning our DT projects - a 3 course 'Come Dine with Me' style meal. Next week, we will be planning our recipes, writing our shopping lists and learning how to cook safely before we make our meals on Friday.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor

Friday 9th May 2025

This week has proved to be quite productive; we have revised and prepped ready for our SAT’s next week and feel quietly confident.

In Maths, we completed our unit on statistics, we looked at how to read and interpret different types of charts, also how to calculate and interpret mean averages from sets of data. The key words for this section are continuous data, discrete data, and pie chart.  Once we felt confident in this area of maths, we were able to answer increasingly complex questions and solve problems using a range of data.

In English, we gathered ideas for an endurance narrative, we focused on the characters to begin with and described their manners and their inner thoughts and determination.  We then spent time revising spelling and grammar questions so we felt confident for next week.

In Art, we continued our learning on digital media.  Digital art, previously known as computer art, is any form of artistic work that uses technology during the creative process. Digital art doesn’t need to be entirely computer-generated, it can be scanned or simply include some aspects created by technology. The prominence of digital art began in the 1950s, when artists and designers began using technological devices to create or manipulate pieces of work.  It wasn’t until the 1980s, however, that digital technologies became more accessible and common. In the early 1980s a paint program was developed, known as AARON, and it was used by the artist Harold Cohen to create drawings.  We focused on the artist Stephen McMennamy, who has a great eye for what will go well together and what he comes up with is unbelievable. His images are always made up of two images made into one at one cross-section that blends them almost seamlessly together.  We had such fun creating images together.

In P.E we played rounders in the sunshine, it was glorious.  We practised throwing and catching to begin with then the games began.

In Computing, we looked at how to stay safe online.  Here are some rules we recapped on:

Be sensible with your passwords. Only share them with trusted adults, such as parents, carers or guardians.

Don't click on links you don’t recognise.

Don't share your personal details, such as your real name, address or the school you go to, with anyone you meet online.

Don't open anything or download files from a website or content provider that you don't know or trust.

Be careful and mindful about what you post online.

Ultimately, if you see anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable or upset, you should:

REPORT - Report via the online site that you experienced it on, then tell a trusted adult about it and ask for help.

SAVE - Keep evidence; take screenshots.

BLOCK - Block the person or group of people responsible.

The school photographer will be in next Friday 16th May, all the children need

to wear full school uniform please.

We hope you all have a wonderful, restful weekend, we do recommend early nights to promote good sleep and a hearty breakfast ready to start each day.  The children will need a plain water bottle and a reading book each day, all of the equipment needed will be provided by school, so please don’t worry.

So Year 6, the time has finally come,

The dreaded SATs are here,

But this is what you’ve worked for,

Since you moved up in to this year.

These tests will tell us what you’ve learned,

And what you can recall,

But there’s a million things,

The SATs won’t tell us at all.

They won’t tell us how you dance,

Or draw, or sing, or run,

Or tell us just how great you are,

At any other things you’ve done.

The SATs don’t measure super-ness,

Or how kind or brave you are,

They’re just a way of helping to see,

All you’ve learned so far.

So all we ask of each of you,

Is to try the best you can,

But no matter the score you’ll get,

We’ll always be your fan!

You’ve worked your socks off this year through,

And now the time has come

By this time next week, you can say,

Phew, the SATs are done.

So rest up, eat lots and get some sleep,

So you’re ready and raring to go,

To show those SATs test who’s the boss,

And show them what you know!

But remember that when they’re over,

It doesn’t matter how you’ve done,

Because you are wonderful, brilliant and fab,

And you’ll be amazing in your lives to come!

Believe in yourself. You are all amazing!

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor

 Friday 2nd May  2025

We would like to start our blog by saying how incredibly proud we are of Year 6 this week. We are just over a week away from SATs so as you can imagine, we are very busy! We are all working so hard to practice, recap and revise everything we have learnt over the past few years, plus a few new concepts. We will continue with our revision next week and we are sure it will all be worth it when we can all walk into the hall confident in everything we have learnt.

As well as revision, we have continued to look at our new text, Shackleton's Journey. We have written a setting description of Antarctica and a diary entry from Shackleton's crew based on this and have really thought about our language choices and using lots of the punctuation we have been practicing.

We have really worked hard in maths- looking at angles in shapes and reading and drawing graphs. We have also practiced maths fluency and previously taught concepts every morning.

In art, we have continued to look at digital art and have started to plan and create our own pieces. We really enjoyed using the computers to find objects that we would blend together to create our work.

We have also done rounders and quick cricket with Mr Aspinall, focusing on throwing and catching skills as well as batting. We then competed against each other in teams. In forest school, we were building shelters just like the crew in Shackleton's journey, although we were slightly warmer than them in this warm weather!

Next week promises to be another busy one with our learning exhibition! We are looking forward to showing you all what we have been doing over the past term and how much we have learnt, there might also be a few tests in there for you!

Wishing you all a wonderful bank holiday weekend!

Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor
